Dr Akhtar one of the leading ophthalmologists of Pakistan began his career in the UK after being awarded F.R.C.S. from London. In the seventies, he moved to Jeddah where he helped to establish El-Magrabi Eye & ENT Hospital as a leading hospital in KSA. On his return to Pakistan in 1982, he established Akhtar Eye Hospital (one of the first advanced and specialized eye hospitals in Pakistan at Karachi. This hospital was recognized as a postgraduate teaching hospital and became an institute from which many leading ophthalmologists received their training.
Understanding the prerequisites of his patients, Dr. Akhtar Jamal Khan felt that the people of Pakistan needed affordable yet safe and efficacious medicines. This led Dr Akhtar to conceptualize Ophth Pharma as a sister concern of Akhtar Eye Hospital. Hence, in 1999 Ophth Pharma, a company dedicated to the well-being of people of Pakistan, was formed.
