Absorbable Sutures

B.T Chromic Catgut (Natural Absorbable Monofilament)

Absorption is by enzymatic action Absorption is unpredictable Tissue reactions occur Chromic Catgut at 14 days Extensive tissue reaction with acute inflammatory response. Submucosal or serosal layer of animal intestine 97-98% pure collagenCleaned & purified - high collagen purityStrands twisted and dried Polished for controlled diameterResult is virtual monofilament Packed wet to keep supple Chromicizing process prolongs strength retention

B.T PGA Synthetic Absorbable Braided

Coated Braided Polyglycolic Acid B.P. Violet and Undyed. Surgisorb suture is a synthetic absorbable sterile surgical suture composed of a homopolymer of glycolide. Surgisorb sutures are dyed with D&C Violet # 2. Surgisorb is available in range of gauge sizes and lengths, non-needled or attached to stainless steel needles of varying types and sizes. Minimal tissue reaction. Easy passage through tissue.

Non Absorbable

BT SILK Multifilament Sutures:

Raw silk is produced by a silkworm larva's cocoon. These natural waxes and gums are removed prior to the braiding process, allowing for a tighter, more compact braid. BT SILK is dyed black for easier visibility in tissue. BT SILK is non-absorbable and multifilament in nature. Although BT SILK classifies its silk as a non-absorbable

B.T Polypropylene Synthetic Non-Absorbable Monofilament

Monofilament Polypropylene suture B.P. Blue.Type - non-absorbable synthetic material. Inert - minimal tissue reaction. Very smooth for easy passage through tissue. Less memory, very pliable- good handling. Easy knot tying, excellent security. Even in infected tissue, polypropylene provides long term strength retention.

Uses - Polypropylene is intended for use in procedures where a smooth monofilament suture offering very long term support is required.

Sterilized by Ethylene Oxide.

BT SILK is dyed black for easier visibility in tissue. BT SILK is non-absorbable and multifilament in nature. Although BT SILK classifies its silk as a non-absorbable suture, it loses most of its tensile strength in one year, and is completely absorbed in 2 years. Thus, BT SILK behaves like a very slow absorbing suture.

B.T Sutures

PGA suture is an ideal and time tested synthetic absorbable suture, widely used by surgeons all over the world.

PGA sutures' superior features over catgut are predictable absorption, outstanding tensile strength, in-vivo inertness and excellent handling properties.

PGA sutures exhibit superior tensile strength as compared to polyglactin sutures and is recommended to be used in orthopaedic and hysterectomy surgeries instead of polyglactin. Petcryl sutures are available in undyed and violet colour

SILK Braided Natural Silk Non-Absorbable Suture DESCRIPTION Silk is a braided nonabsorbable, sterile surgical suture composed of an organic protein called fibroin. This protein is derived from the domesticated species Bombyx mori (B. mori) of the family Bombycidae. CHARACTERISTICS Silk suture exhibits: Smooth flow through tissue while maintaining optimal knot security

NDICATIONS Silk suture is indicated for use in general soft tissue approximation and/or ligation, including use in cardiovascular, ophthalmic, and neurological procedures. CONTRAINDICATIONS The use of this suture is contraindicated on patients with known sensitivities or allergies to silk.Due to the gradual loss of tensile strength that may occur over prolonged periods in vivo, silk surgical sutures should not be used where permanent retention of tensile strength is required.

ADVERSE REACTIONS Adverse effects associated with the use of this device include wound dehiscence, gradual loss of strength over time, allergic response in patients that are known to be sensitive to silk, calculus formation in urinary and billiary tracts when prolonged contact with a salt solution such as urine or bile occur, infecting wounds, acute inflammatory tissue, and transitory local irritation

TENSILE STRENGTHWhile Silk suture is not absorbed, progressive degradation of the proteinaceous silk fiber in vivo may result in a gradual loss of the suture tensile strength over time.

Polypropylene sutures are blue colored for easy identification during surgery. Polypropylene sutures have excellent tensile strength and are used for orthopaedic, plastic and micro surgeries, general closure and cardiovascular surgeries.

Polypropylene sutures are popularly known as Prolene sutures.

Polypropylene sutures elicit minimal tissue reaction and do not cause tissue rupture or support infection.Polypropylene sutures are available in blue colour

CHROMIC GUT Twisted Gut Natural Absorbable Suture

DESCRIPTION Chromic Gut sutures are absorbable sterile surgical sutures composed of purified connective tissue (mostly collagen) derived from the serosal layer of beef (bovine) or the submucosal fibrous layer of sheep (ovine) intestines.

They are packaged in a solution of 90% isopropanol, 0.5% sodium benzoate, 0.5% diethylethanolamine, and water q.s. ad 100%. Chromic Gut is treated with a chromic salt solution.

CHARACTERISTICS

The manufacturing of catgut raw material, consisting of long ribbons of highly selected serosal tissue, ensures: • Purity of collagen for optimal tensile strength and in vivo performance. • Uniform treatment with a buffered chromium salt solution. • Surface smoothness to facilitate knot run-down and knot strength.

Nylon sutures are non-absorbable sutures and possess excellent tensile strength. Nylon sutures are available in black colour. Nylon sutures have excellent knot security properties and can be easily removed with no tissue adherence. These sutures are infection resistant.

Nylon sutures are widely used for general closure, skin and plastic surgery. They are usually not recommended for attachment of artificial prostheses in cardiovascular surgery. They also do not support infection and maintain tensile strength indefinitely in tissues.

Polyester suture is a braided and coated suture (silicone) and is a non-absorbable suture composed of Polyethylene terephthalate fiber.Polyester sutures have excellent tensile strength, soft and pliable with excellent braiding and are an excellent choice for cardiovascular and ophthalmic surgery.

Polyester sutures are not subject to degradation and retain tensile strength indefinitely in vivo.
